Steve's a Winner

THE NATIONAL CAPITAL CHESAPEAKE BAY CHAPTER OF THE NATIONAL ACADEMY OF TELEVISION ARTS AND SCIENCES

I wanted to fill you in on the night's happenings. The dinner was held at the Ritz Carlton in DC. It was black-tie optional and of course Steve went with the other option...comfort. He would have worn shorts but I convinced him to at least wear pants.

Steve and were seated with all the other Comcast nominees. All of them were full time employees mostly news people and an air-announcer or 2. Fortunately Steve's category was in the early part of the awards so we didn't have to wait too long.

His category was Live Sports Event/unedited. There were 6 submissions and his was the only one to be nominated. He submitted work from the final game of the last year's season where the Capitals Clinched the Southeast Division.

An interesting note - There were 98 categories, 645 Total Entries, only 169 nominations, and only 77 award winners! Pretty exclusive group.

"A longtime Baltimore journalist Richard Sher received an Emmy for his professional contribution to the regional broadcast community. The award, named for a Washington correspondent killed during the Six Day War, was presented to Sher on Saturday, June 6 at the Ritz Carlton Hotel" Since Richard Sher and Oprah worked together in Baltimore - Oprah's early days - she actually came to the awards ceremony to honor Sher.

Steve was out in the lobby getting his picture taken with the other Comcast winners and heard all the commotion in the ballroom. I was watching the presentation and clips of Richard Sher. At first I thought they had a clip of Oprah but then I realized the lady walking up to the stage was the lady on the big screen. I am not really a fan of Oprah but it was fun just the same.

Steve made a real nice speech. I heard they may be broadcasting the night on a cable network, would be fun to watch (not sure if others would care but I will watch).

I know everyone works hard at their job but it's always nice to be recognized. So now we have an Emmy in our house.

We have put our house on the market and had a showing the next morning. We left the Emmy out along with the programs...our real estate agent noticed right away, maybe that will make the difference.

I know you were interested in details Ted, so there you have it.

Hope all is well with you.

Nancy
